Appointment of Dean of the Faculty of Engineering

Professor Emeka Simon Obe has accepted the appointment following his election as Dean of the Faculty of Engineering from 1 August 2020, for a period of 2 years.
In this role Professor Obe will be responsible for providing strategic leadership, planning and coordination for the Faculty of Engineering, and for driving continuing excellence in research and education. He will be the chief administrative officer to the Faculty, chairs the Faculty Board, represents the Faculty on the Senate Executive Board and is a member of the University’s Leadership Team.
He will also ensure that the Faculty contributes to the University’s and Faculty’s strategic aims, reputation and stature, and attains agreed objectives. As the Dean, he will ensure that the Faculty maintains an environment and culture in which students and staff can flourish and excel, and which is intellectually stimulating and culturally vibrant, pleasant, safe and sustainable.
He received his B. Eng, M. Eng and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from University of Nigeria in 1994, 1999 and 2002, respectively. Since 1999 he has been with the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Nigeria, Nsukka where he is currently a professor. Prof. Obe has been a visiting researcher at Tennessee Technological University, USA in 2004 and 2006, at the University of the Ryukyus, Japan in 2005 and at Technische Universitat Darmstadt, Germany 2008-2009.
He has held several key positions at the University of Nigeria including Director, National Center for Equipment Maintenance and Development, (2012-2014), Director, Computer Communications Center,(2014–18), Head of Electrical Engineering Department (2016-2019), Associate Dean, Faculty of Engineering (2018-2020). His research interests are ac machine analysis, design and drives.
